about the logo

I finally have a logo that feels like ME. Most of the time I honestly just feel like a little girl with an old camera trying take a picture of something beautiful. Beauty is everywhere but we rarely take the time to stop and look at it, let alone appreciate it. People seem to disagree all over the place on what beauty actually is, but it's everywhere, I promise. It might be in the youthful glow on the cheeks of an innocent child, the careful touch of a groom on his new bride's back as he helps her down the stairs, or the smile lines on an old woman's face (for how can something born of a smile be anything but gorgeous?). The beauty I see might not be what you see, but through the wonder of photographs I have the ability to actually show you. Isn't photography awesome that way?

Holga love <3: Part deux

I was lucky enough to spend Christmas in Austin, TX visiting my sister. Austin is such a cool city, and I know I will have to go back there and spend a lot more time exploring! While I was there I happened on to the Lomography store in downtown Austin and I have to say, it was like heaven! Lomography is an analogue (non digital) photographer’s paradise. They have Holga, Diana, and Lomography specific cameras and film stocks. While I was there I picked up some of their Lomography 800 film specifically to put in my Holga. I had previously been using Kodak Portra 400, and although I was digging the results, I felt like trying something new. Unfortunately I tried to use this film roll partially indoors, so a majority of the pictures weren’t really, eh hem, blog worthy (that’s photographer speak for: “epic fail” ;) lol). But, I actually really like the pictures below that did turn out!

One of the major reasons I love my Holga is that the pictures are inherently imperfect. Huh? I know that sounds odd but let me explain… I am a major perfectionist in my photography. I painstakingly pour over pictures I take analyzing what I could have and should have done differently, but with the Holga, I get to focus on the moment. I appreciate the imperfections in my photographs more knowing that I captured something uniquely that will not ever be able to be replicated with the latest iPhone photo app… simply a moment in time. It’s what makes me love photography again, but even more importantly it makes me a better photographer even when I’m not using it. Yay for the Holga! :)
